Ah, Tam! ah, Tam! thou'll get thy fairin'!
In hell they'll roast thee like a herrin'!

An old poem by Robert Burns. If'n I read it correctly, a tale of a scallywag who tricks his wife into thinking that his lateness was due to witchcraft, rather than drunkenness.

Also the name of a Scottish cap - the beret-looking thing with the tassle on the top. This cap is often associated with the (Scottish) game of golf.

Tam`-o'-shan"ter (?), n. [So named after Tam o'Shanter, a character in Burns's poem of the same name.]

A kind of Scotch cap of wool, worsted, or the like, having a round, flattish top much wider than the band which fits the head, and usually having a tassel in the center.
