stupid tax

Definition:

An indirect method of taxing the stupid. This tax may be executed through legal or illegal means. The tax does not need to be strictly monetary, anything which results in a reduction of the oppertunities given to the stupid is a valid stupid tax. Stupid taxes generally bend or break the rules of morality and/or common decency.

Examples:

Monetary Stupid Taxes:

Legal:

• National or State Lotteries (An example of a Government Sponsored stupid tax)
• Bingo
• Most types of Casino Gambling
• "500 Club" style evangelical orginizations which request donations
• "The Publisher's Clearinghouse" style sweepstakes
• Day Trading
• "Miricle Products" (as seen on TV!)
• The Psychic Friends Hotline
• Internet Gambing

Illegal:

• Street Gambing (e.g. The Shell Game or Three Card Monty)
• Pick-pockets (keep your wallet in the front pocket next time, hmm?)
• Any Pyramid Sceme
• Countless numbers of other cons and rackets

Other Types of Stupid Taxes:

• Extreme Sports
• Extreme Food ("yeah that blowfish was good, until it killed me...")
• Most Anything Extreme or Xtreme
• The majority of Unprotected Sex
• Smoking
• Smoking in Bed
• Riding a Motorcycle Without a Helmet
• Any type of activity in which injury or death is preventable, but the proper precautions are not honored.

Exceptions:

Driving under the influence of a substance, no matter how many stupid people it kills per year, is not a stupid tax because of the many smart people the stupid ones take along with themselves (or sadly enough, the stupid ones don't die). It is only a stupid tax if the stupid people are the only ones to get burned.
