Two people on a street -- him: tall, thickset, dark; her: blonde, plump, pretty. They are arguing. Insults screamed, hard words hissed, hands waved and gestures made.
He raises a hand, clenches it, draws it back as if to strike. She cowers. People stop and stare.
Someone steps between them. He drops his fist, stalks away. She looks after him, reaches out, lets her hand fall with a sob. Tugging off the wedding ring she has worn for who knows how long, she flings it away from her.
She turns her back, leaves. People start to move again. Excitement over.
