To be uncooperative or evasive; hinder; as,
He stonewalled the district attorney.
From the immovability of a stone wall.
Also a 1996 movie, a fictional, yet fairly accurate account of not just the night of the Stonewall riots (which, on a riot scale of 1 to 10, was probably a 4 - not very many injuries, and the riot was really over before it started), but also the situation of gay men (women aren't really involved in this account) in the 1960s.

In a period that was supposedly about freedom and rights, gays in America were not only marginalized and beat up, when they weren't being beaten, they were ignored.

Not a bad flick ... there are better gay movies, but it's not a bad representation of gay men and transsexuals in America.
