spumoni

A flavour of ice cream, consisting of small amounts of vanilla and chocolate mixed (swirled, really) in with lots of green pistachio ice cream. The overall effect is a little like amaretto ice cream, but of course eating green food is much more amusing.

In Naples, spumoni has 28 different flavors thrown in, including rum, pistachio, strawberry and chocolate plus a whipped cream center studded with nuts, candied melon and maraschino cherries.

August 21 or 22 is National Spumoni Day in the United States.
