Character Etymology:

Two hands encircling a body. This character originally carried the phonetic meaning "to extend," and was used to represent lightning extending from a raincloud in the character for electricity. The original meaning of the character was then expanded upon to mean something like "speaking with the impact of lighting," i.e. forceful, dramatic speech.
