Premium pay received by
hourly employees whose
shifts begin between certain times.
Shift differential is normally an employee's
base pay plus a
nominal amount.
Example:
- An employee who starts between 7 and 9 p.m. gets 0.25 USD additional.
- An employee who starts between 9 p.m. and 4 a.m. gets 0.45 USD additional.
In addition, employees who start after 11
p.m. are usually given a paid
half hour lunch break.
