In baseball, a variation on the suicide squeeze bunt in which the runner only breaks halfway home from third and waits to see how good the bunt is before deciding whether to try to score or to go back to third. The safety squeeze is less risky than the suicide squeeze in that the runner on third will probably not be thrown out, but he has less chance of scoring and often ends up back at third with the batter uselessly thrown out at first.
