The
robing ceremony is a
ceremony that as far as I know, is only done at my
school,
Nolan Catholic High School. The ceremony is actually a fairly
simple one, but the
beauty of this ceremony lies in its simplicity. At the
end of the year, every
senior chooses one member of the
faculty or
staff to represent the school at the ceremony. At the ceremony, when the student's name is called, he or she goes up to the stage, carrying their
robe, and hand it to their chosen
faculty member, who then assists them in putting the robe on.
It is sort of a way for the student to symbolically say that this faculty member has made a difference for them. It is also a way of recognizing the role the school, represented by the chosen faculty member, has had in educating the student; in effect saying that without them they would not have gotten the robe and therefore would not have graduated.
