A sample selected in such a way that any member of the population has a chance of being surveyed or interviewed. Random samples are used are used during polls to ensure that the poll is unbias to a certain response. If someone is polling on the subject of government spending, and they only took a sample of the upper class population, it would not include the ideology of lower class citizens and would represent ideas bias to the upper class.
