A radiosonde is a package of instruments for measuring meteorological data. The measurements, taken from any given atmosphere, are then instantly sent via radio to the meteorologists who drop the science to you viewers at home.
If the instrument package is carried by a rocket it would be a rocketsonde.
If the instrument package is dropped by a parachute it would be a dropsonde.
