Radio call signs, often (incorrectly) called the phonetic
alphabet, are used in
vocal communications over
radio connections and are partially based on the
Greek alphabet. Each letter is replaced by a word, so that even if there is
interference or a noisy
line, individual letters can be discerned by the user. However, they are starting to go out of
fashion in the e-age of
instantaneous telegraphy.
