Forerunner of punk rock, having some (or many) of the characteristics of what was to come. Iggy Pop and his band The Stooges, for example. Their fellow Michiganders The MC5 as well. Many Nuggets 60's punk or garage bands would fit this definition: the 13th Floor Elevators, The Standells, The Seeds... One might even include Bob Dylan, whose voice, in his folkie and "gone electric" days, could have been the model upon which Johnny Rotten's fine whine was built.
