A
resource is considered non renewable if the amount available to us does not increase on a
human time scale under any circumstances. Most
geologists believe
fossil fuels form in the
ground over millions of years, but so slowly that the
renewal is trivial for our purposes.
Resources which are not actually destroyed but are extremely expensive to recycle after use are also considered non renewable.
