This ingenious movie has also
spawned several spin-off movies and plays with a similar theme.
One of these is the 5-year running Chicago play 'Hellcab' performed annually at the
Lincoln West Theater on Barry and Southport.
Hellcab follows one cabdriver and his various fares throughout a night of
Chicago driving. The many colorful characters are all played by a small cast of about 6 or 7 local actors; it is largely based on improvisation and is never the same play twice.
Also, there is a movie called
Subway Stories that depicts several random and completely unrelated situations on the
New York subway. The stories are supposedly true and were compiled from New York residents mailing in their memorable subway anecdotes. However I also read somewhere that the idea for the movie was partly inspired by
Jarmusch's Night On Earth.
