Like neurotransmitters, Neuromodulators move information either from one neuron to another, or from a neuron to a target cell. Neuromodulators, however, usually affect the receptiveness of the cell, and do not have a direct result. The line dividing neuromodulators from neurotransmitters is thin, as is the line dividing them from hormones.
