The leaves of a mustard plant, mustard greens have a pungent, peppery flavor. Generally people either love it or hate it. My mom is firmly in the latter camp. I haven't had any since I was a little kid, so I'll get back to you on my opinion. They are a common ingredient in soul food, or as it was called in my house, food. They belong to the same family as collard greens, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, and kale. They can usually be found fresh, frozen and canned at your local supermarket.

If they aren't picked at the right time, mustard greens get very bitter.
