Microgram is abbreviated μg, or when greek characters are not available, ug. A more useful interpretation of the microgram is that it's one one-thousandth of a milligram. Things commonly measured in micrograms include nutritional quantities of certain substances, such as folic acid (U.S. RDA = 400ug), and active quantities of LSD (one hit=~50ug) and certain hormones.
