ASCII geek slang for
Microsoft, a
dominant software company that has been indicted on federal
anti-trust charges, makers of the
Windows operating system.
Linux-loving geeks are wont to employ this ASCII slang on anti-Windows web pages, Linux message boards, e2 w/u's and the like, for two obvious reasons: (1) to prevent litigious action from the software giant and (2) to jape the perceived monopolisitc tendencies of the Redmond, Washington-based organization.
I'm not saying
Bill Gates is an
evil overlord at all, Mr.
Softlinker! I'm saying this is how he is
perceived. That's exactly what I said, "to jape the perceived monopolistic tendencies"!
