Abbreviated mf, mezzo forte is the dynamic marking in music which is louder than mezzo piano but softer than forte. It is an Italian term, literally "medium strong," and it is typically the average loudness maintained by a given piece of solo music.

Like other standard dynamic markings in music terminology, mezzo forte is a uniform level of loudness, achieved with an immediate transition out of any prior dynamic state, rather than a gradual increase or decrease, such as would be represented with crescendo and diminuendo, or a sudden alternation between loud and soft, such as would be represented with sforzando and rinforzando.
