multi-level marketing company headquartered in
Idaho Falls, Idaho. It is similar to
Amway, but has fewer products.
Melaleuca sells oil from the tree of the same name (see write-up by Sylvar, above). It is put into many of their products, and has a very distinctive smell.
Other products include body-care products, vitamins, and a wide range of cleaning and other household products.
Members receive the products at a "discounted" price, and receive a commission from products bought by any members they recruit. Melaleuca members have to purchase a minimum amount of products each month, about $35 to $50 US. See MLM.
I was a member for several years, and I did enjoy their shampoo. However, it was the first thing I cut out of my life when I was trying to get my budget into shape. I never recruited anyone, I only bought their products...I guess that while I considered it overpriced, I don't consider MLM's evil.
