the marks stay, but the ink
bleeds over. Slashes become
staves become wings, become
freedom.

today I will wear velvet where
fingers closed tight, will stand
dizzy
at the edge of the bridge, breathing:
cold crisp air.

at night, I dig my feet into my mattress
like the floor. I brace myself
against nightmares. The marks
stay.

I fly.
