Lillet is the patented name for two aperitifs, Lillet Blanc and Lillet Rogue. Both are fortified wines infused with herbs that originated in the village of Podensac in the Bordeaux region of France and came to attention in Paris (and from thence, the world) in the late 1800s.
Lillet Blanc is based on Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon wine. It has aromas of honey, orange, and mint.
Lillet Rogue has a base of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot wine. The aroma carries a sweet grape scent, with orange and oak present.
Served as an aperitif, either Lillet is poured over ice and garnished with an orange twist.
However, Lillet Blanc truely shines in the Vesper, a martini variant.
