Scientifically known as terbinafine hydrochloride, this is an antifungal drug. Although it is now available over the counter, I am familiar with the prescription strength version, that worked wonderfully.

The fungal problem in question was athlete's foot. No, I'm not proud that I had it, but the point is that I had tried the various drug-store sprays and creams before I went to the doctor because none of them worked.

The doctor did not even touch my feet. He simply looked at them and got out his prescription pad, prescribing lamisil tablets. He explained that I had to get blood tests to make sure that my liver was cleaning out my system while taking this drug.

After a few weeks, the athlete's foot was gone. The doctor kept me on lamisil for a week or so more. I didn't experience any side effects and am still amazed at something that worked as advertised.

Of course, check with your doctor before taking any medicine.
