At my former academic insitution, we (and by we I mean the admins in the EE department) used to joke that the
Lab Gimps (or
proctors) were paid solely to keep users from stealing shit and to change the paper in the printer. Many times a day I would receive a visit from a new
luser asking for an account activation yet told by the proctor to come visit me. The gimps were supposedly trained to run the midgety
shell script that did this
automagically. It's bad enough I got paid marginally better than them, when you don't count the out-of-state fee waiver some of them got for being employees. It's another thing when they sit on their lazy asses brushing off the students while doing assignments or browsing the web.
Sorry for the
rant. It's two months after I quit and I still have flashbacks.
