Also known as the brachiocephalic vein, the left and right innominate veins in the upper chest are formed by the union of each corresponding jugular vein and subclavian vein. These two vessels merge to form the superior vena cava.


The name itself is an oxymoron as "innominate" means, literally, "unnamed". One of the many quirks of anatomy.
