In Position is my second or third favourite EP/Mini-album/call-it-what-you-will. After R.E.M.'s Chronic Town and The Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour. It sounds more like the former; kinda indie garage rock, with a mysterious edge. Turn are two lads from Kells County Meath (and Gavin from Dublin), and veterans of the Irish indie scene, having played in local bands like Revelino, Nero and Swamp Shack before eventually accumulating enough songs to join forces as Turn. IMHO, the band they sound most like is Idlewild, with whom they've been touring recently. They have a similar range of songs, ranging from punky, angsty rockers to more laid-back, mellow tunes.

In Position

A little baby face it seems
Can get you all your dreams
And not what you say
I can't afford to leave this town
But if I stick around
It'll be my death bed

I know I oughta go somewhere
I'm not sure why
But I thought of Scotland
It makes no sense to stay at home
When all your enemies
Are in positions better that you

And nothing you do seems right
Hanging on for somebody new
Is that what sounds good to you?

I had a chance to make my way
So I tried not to stay too long with boredom
For reasons that I can't explain
I made my own mistakes
I counted all them

I know I oughta go somewhere
I'm not sure why
But I thought of Scotland
It makes no sense to stay at home
When all your enemies
Are in positions better that you

And nothing you do seems right
Hanging on for somebody new
Is that what sounds good to you?
This town

Positions better than you (positions better than you)
And nothing you do seems right
Hanging on for somebody new
And is that what sounds good to you?
This time
