A musical instrument which is beyond normal instruments; generally an instrument which is enhanced through computer technology to give the performer additional fine control of every aspect of the sound. Much work in hyperinstruments has gone on at the MIT Media Lab, though hyperinstruments to a lesser extent are pervasive throughout modern music. Most Korg keyboards, the 01/W and M10 in particular, are low-scale hyperinstruments.
