A period of time (mostly the late 90's) in which irony gained a foothold as a major mode of communication between people (some would argue that these people were mainly Gen-Xers or the people of Generation X. There seems to be a backlash of sorts against this constant use of irony. Evidence for this statement can be found in such social commentary such as the teenager scene in the Lolapalooza episode of The Simpsons. However there seems to be some sort of consequence for this time period. Evidence for this statement can be found in the work of Adam Green. His work incorporates a highly developed sense of irony. Which seems inappropriate in these relatively straightforward times (as opposed to those ironic days when everyone said the opposite of what they felt all the time).
