An initiate in the voodoo religion. Hounsi is from the Fon language of Dahomey, and means "bride of the loa", although the term in Haiti refers to men and women. There are several levels of initiation, the first being hounsi kanzo. A hounsi kanzo typically wears white clothing, and is a likely candidate to be "ridden" (possessed) by a loa.
