Hemocyanin is found in the blood of arthropods and molluscs possessing hemolymph. Hemocyanin performs the oxygen carrying duty hemoglobin does for vertebrates. The hemocyanins are proteins containing two copper atoms that reversibly bind with oxygen. The oxygenated form is blue due to the copper, the deoxygenated form is colorless.
