Science fiction author born 12 March 1925, described on his official web site as: "Author, Soldier {U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII} and Pacifist, Traveller, Esperantist, Comics Artist and Writer, Anthologist, Atheist, and SF Professional." He started drawing after getting out of the Army, but didn't become a freelance writer until 1956.

He's most famous for the Stainless Steel Rat humorous SF series, and also for the serious novel Make Room! Make Room!, which formed the basis of the movie Soylent Green.
