The term halobiont refers to a living organism that can withstand a salt-like environment, since the prefix halo- has to do with salt and its properties. Examples of this term would be plants that live in a saline environment like the ocean, although the term isn't limited to plants, it can also be used for insects. The Webster New World Dictionary defines halobiont as a noun "(halo + biont) an organism living in a saline environment, as in the sea".
