A goem was the designation given to a store in the pre-fall USSR that was only open to members of the Communist Party, and even then you usually had to be a member of the "in-crowd". Usually they were high-scale clothing and consumer goods stores selling a large selection of imported luxury goods, though some goem were for everyday domestic items.
Is this not correct? Encyclodaedia says it is. Clarify me, please?
