a breed of sighthound closely related related to (and probably the ancestor of) today's greyhound. An old breed, representations of them often appear in medieval tapestries. They were bred as hunting dogs, for everything from rabbit to the big royal hunting parties that went after deer. Common colors include tawny, grey, and brindled.
