Fire Protection is the study and practice of preventing damage and loss of life from fire. Fire Protection is a proactive not reactive practice. Therefore, a fire protection professional accepts that fires do and will happen at any time in any condition. They therefore, plan ahead and prepare for the worst while hoping their services will never need to be used. Someone in the field of fire protection designs, studies, or installs equipment and systems that protect people in the event of a fire. These include but are not limited to, fire sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, and other extinguishing systems,

One may also achieve a degree in the studies of fire protection. Only two four-year degrees exist to this day from the Oklahoma State University School of Fire Protection and Safety Engineering Technology or The University of Maryland Department of Fire Protection Engineering.
