Robert Cawdrey's A Table Alphabeticall from 1604 spells it faschious, and defines it as
"grievous, or inducing to anger".



Webster's New International Dictionary from 1909, asserts that it derives from "fash vexation" and means "troublesome; vexatious". Webster's also suggests a Scottish origin and offers the noun fashiousness.

The Oxford English Dictionary defines Fashious as "Causing or giving anxiety or trouble; tiresome, vexatious. rarely of a person.
