A participant in a scientific experiment, especially a social science experiment. Scientists have a moral and often legal obligation to treat their subjects ethically, for example by only lying to them about the experiment if it is absolutely necessary for the purposes of the experiment, and by disclosing the truth as soon after it stops being necessary to withold it as possible.
