Ever had a problem with stinging ants? They are a common yard nuisance in the southern United States. Common remedies include burning with gasoline and harsh insecticides. Rather than pollute the environment, here is a much cleaner way.

Find two different nests and swap a shovelful of each onto the other. The ants of one colony will fight the other to the death. This also helps eliminate the queen so the colony dies completely. The process may have to be repeated once or twice, but it's cheap and much safer than the alternatives.
