A being that derives its being from itself. In Christianity, God is one of these. Ens a se is not contingent upon anything else for its existence. Ens a se is the opposite of ens ab alio.
By the way, "ens ab alio" is Latin. One for the monoglots.

Closely related to this concept of God's being from nothing is the word aseity, which means uncreated. God, being the creator and the supreme being, could not have been created. If God were created, it might imply that God was not the supreme being and this would run counter to theological teachings.
