Porridge drying on a plate creates a bond between materials that is one of the strongest known to man. In Sweden, my country of residence, the annual national championship of doing dishes recently took place and one of the gruesome tasks the contestants were faced with was to render bowls free from the substance known as dry porridge. They also had to get plates shiny and sparkling after having been left to dry for some time, drenched in spinach stew - which probably could be used to make a whole building stick together. I can state for the record that the guy who came in forth is from the very town where I live. He finds great joy in his job of dishwashing, every day at work being a new day of practice for next year's championship. I really can't decide if this is the notion of a winner or that of a genuine loser.
