When you puke, and nothing comes out but pain. Dry heaving is most often worse than actual vomiting. It's after you're done puking up all of your guts. It's what's under those guts. It can be almost spiritual. You know that there's nothing left. You wonder how your body can produce such an act without ejecting anything. It's really quite cathartic. The act of dry heaving is like the act of your body revolting. A small revolution. It's a reminder of the body's ability to work on its own, without your control. You feel your heavy breathing, your heart beating. It is one of the strongest ways to become aware. However, it is painful and shows you one of your own physical thresholds.
