In medical terms, it refers to the form in which a drug is delivered. Categories include:

• Solid Dosage Forms
  • Tablets, also known as compressed tablets.
  • Capsules
  • Suppositories
  • (Pills do not exist any more, at least not commercially. They are small, spherical and irregular by virtue of being hand-rolled.)
• Liquid Dosage Forms
  • Syrups
  • Suspensions
• Injectable
  • Intravenous injection
  • Intravenous Infusion
  • Intramuscular Injection
  • Several other injectable routes exist but are less commonly used. These inlude intrathecal, subdural, intra-articular and others.
• Dispersible
  • Soluble Powders for dissolution in water. Most common application is for delivery of Oral Rehydration Salts.
