Docetaxel's commerical name is Taxotere, manufactured by Aventis Corporation, formerly Rhone-Poulenc Rorer. Docetaxel is an anti-cancer drug that stabilizes microtubules during anaphase of the mitotic cycle, so that a cell cannot divide. The drug, made from the leaves of taxus baccatta, the English yew tree, is offered to breast and lung cancer patients who have exhausted other options.
