Spike Lee's 1989 film about
race relations in the big city. Filled to capacity with a
complex characters , the film is an almost
whimsical character study until the film's dramatic
climax.
Set on one block in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood on the hottest day the year, the movie examines the full spectrum of the relationships among people in this community. Lee is careful to make his characters multi-dimensional showing their strength and weakness. In the final scenes he leaves it up to the viewer to decide who, of anyone at all has "done the right thing."
Outstanding performances include Danny Aiello, John Turturro and Ruby Dee.
