Dasai is the Japanese word for primitive, out of fashion, or old.

The usage of the word can have connotations of crustiness and moldiness. It can refer to old, tired jokes like oyaji gyagu, or classical icons of Japanese culture like the salaryman who comes home drunk from the local bar with his necktie tied around his head like a bandanna.

The most colorful example I ever heard used to define this word was that of a young woman who instead of going out to drink and party with her friends, sat at home watching baseball on TV with a glass of plum wine (umeshu) or sake.

Not being one to really like the whole party/get drunk/forget everything scene, I rather like the idea of a nice dasai young woman.

especially if she shares her sake with me.
