This phrase has leaked its way into common usage -- for example, the Hindustan Times1 used it to refer to the George W. Bush vs. Al Gore presidental election and the Irish Examiner2 used it when discussing the deal allowing BMW to use the trademark Rolls-Royce grille and hood ornament even though Volkswagen won the takeover battle for the Rolls-Royce Corporation.
