A croquis is often used as a tool implimented by fashion illustrators as a pattern or form to create their designs upon. In order that illustrators might focus their creative efforts directly upon the formation of the clothing or accessories being fashioned rather than the drawing of the figure, the first step used by most fashion designers is to trace on paper a copy of a pre-created croquis. Granted, in order to maintain originality, designers are encouraged to create their own croquis.
