Ir. gaelic - a good time, friend repartee and banter, juicy gossip

Until about fifteen years ago, this was spelled 'crack'. The reasons for the change are twofold:

  1. To distinguish it from crack cocaine
  2. To make it look like a word in the Irish language should (there being no 'k' in Irish)

The question remains, however: does the word originate in the Irish language? Who knows.
