Clown Loach is the common name for
Botia macracantha, a popular
aquarium fish. Clown loaches are brightly colored
bottom feeders.
Clown loaches are bright orange with three black vertical stripes that encircle the body. Although they often reach 30 centimeters in the wild, in aquaria, they usually max out at about 15 centimeters.
Clown loaches are schooling fish, so they prefer to be in groups of at least five. They are shy and like to burrow and hide, so your aquarium should have gravel and lots of plants or decorations. Clown loaches require soft and slightly acidic water to thrive. They are omnivorous and will generally eat any type of food in your tank; they are rumored to even eat snails.
They are native to streams and creeks in Indonesia, Sumatra and Borneo.
